NYTimes.com: Al Pacino is back on Broadway, or so I hear. I wouldn’t know from firsthand experience. Unlike the many thousands of theatergoers who have seen Mr. Pacino in the revival of David Mamet’s “Glengarry Glen Ross,” making it the highest-grossing straight play currently on Broadway, critics have not been invited to attend until later this week, more than six weeks after the show began previews.

Imagine having a job where you could get paid for whining about not getting a free ticket to a play. Imagine having a job where you could get paid for feeling entitled to the opportunity to disparage a ticket that thousands of people already happily purchased. Imagine that once people would pay for your opinion even when you call those very people fools and philistines. Imagine we live in the last days of such a profession.
