Spider-Man Wants the Most Tonys

Stage Directions: It’s a stunt, but oh man, what a stunt! Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, was pretty much snubbed by the Tony nominating committee—but now, in a bid to have “more Tonys than any other show on Broadway” they are offering 200 free tickets to anyone with a first name resembling “Tony” on Sunday, June 10 (the day of the Tony Awards). Love. This.

This article proves two things about Spiderman. The first is that they are pissed at the fact that the number of Tony nominations that the show received were too low for the producers. Having seen the show I vouch for the fact that it only did deserve the noms it got, and not one more. The short version on my feelings were that Bono and The Edge should not right musicals, and Julie Taymour is a theatrical genius. Other than her limited work, the show has no future on the great white way. This brings me to the second point, that the producers are obviously trying to suck up to the Tonys hoping that they will get to perform for a second year. Well Mr/Mrs. Producer....what other numbers can be performed without striking the whole set and flying system and moving it across the system. In the end these producers just need to look at their lives and look at their choices.
