Safety Tips | Don't Get Nailed

This Old House Mobile: Despite the jokes that so often seem to accompany media reports of nail-gun accidents, the rising frequency of such injuries is nothing to laugh at: There are some 14,800 incidents a year among nonprofessionals, according to reports. Most injuries are simple, treatable puncture wounds. But gun-driven nails can also cause more serious problems.

Those are some scary x-rays. I don't recall ever seeing anyone use a nail gun at Carnegie Mellon, though. Or, now that I think about it, ever. Maybe they get used a lot and I just miss it, who knows. But if not, the safety tips in this article would apply to staple guns as well, and I know we use those pretty often. I remember DR telling us in stagecraft about the safety features on the staple guns, and that you used to be able to shoot old guns in the air, without pressing them down on something first.
