| TribLIVE | Pittsburgh: Right from the start of the Overture, Pittsburgh Opera's production of "The Abduction from the Seraglio" has the ebullience needed for this romantic comedy by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
The company's first production of the opera in nearly 30 years features an intriguing and visually appealing staging that is mostly successful and, on Friday night at the Benedum Center, Downtown, some excellent singing and thoroughly rewarding conducting and orchestral performance.

I am a huge Mozart fan and have experienced the "The Abduction from the Seraglio" in different languages, in different countries. Last Friday, at the gala of the opera, I was shocked to see how the production was into a racist and sexist assault, in such a subtle way that, everybody was enjoying and laughing- except for a couple foreigners.
watch it again, you'll know what i mean. It is far from Mozart's interpretation and approach.
Shame on you Pittsburgh Opera!
