Phonofonics

Science & Sons: "Without the use of external power or batteries, the Phonofone inventively exploits the virtues of horn acoustics to boost the audio output of standard earphones to up to 55 decibles* (or roughly the maximum volume of laptop speakers)"

The problem with "warm, rich and resonant sound" is that it has nothing to do with linearity in the frequency-amplitude curve. While this may make some styles of music sound good to the average listener, it makes the music you are listening to even more different from the sound that the engineer recorded. It's rather like saying your electric guitar sounds good through a specific distortion pedal and then deciding to play all of your classical symphonies through the same distortion pedal. I'd like to see more consumer-grade equipment manufacturers publishing the frequency response of their products.
