I always find it interesting when people will try to take a play like "Oedipus" and try to set it in a modern text. How do you approach it? I like the idea of using objects and styles of the period along with the modern day setting. This way, the play is not completely taken out of period and it gives references to the audience so they may have a better understanding.
Taking well known story and giving it modern language and context offers itself to a larger audience. I my schedule works out so i can see this show. I'm excited to see the costumes, and the blending of old and new.
Usually when people try to modernize classic plays I tend to cringe. This one however sounds like it might actually be pretty good. I say this not only because of the costumes, which are what was most talked about, but the whole approach. I like the idea of basing Oedipus's royal family on modern royals and rich Europeans instead of stereotypical monarchs. This show is one that I would actually go see. -Natasha Alejandro
i think modernizing plays is a good idea. especially for people who arent at the intellectual level to understand some of the older classic plays and it makes things more appealing to people who wouldnt normally be interested.
many classic plays modernize well because they deal with universal issues.
