AEA Labor Day Events
actorsequity.org | News #038; Media: "The first Labor Day holiday was organized by the Central Labor Union on September 5, 1882, in New York City. The CLU held its second Labor Day holiday just a year later and began to urge unions in other cities to celebrate a 'workingmen's holiday' on that date. The idea spread with the growth of labor organizations, and by 1885, Labor Day was celebrated in many industrial centers around the country. "
