While the "Will it matter in x number of years?" is sometimes helpful, it is also dangerous. Like the article says, those who put the most into their work are the ones that are quickest to burnout. The answer, therefore, is not to put less into your work and dismiss things that aren't important long-term, but to know your limits and treat every task as important, but only to the extent that you can handle it. If you ignore issues that don't appear to have long-term consequences, the neglect can add up and eventually turn into bigger problems that do have long-term implications.
Gee, did this person write an article about me? I growl everytime I'm around everyone.....I know that burn out is survivable, it just sucks that others have to deal with it....or sometimes, just stop being a friend. Stress is something that can make or break relationships. Its so disappointing that our society today relies on our stresses to operate, and its even more depressing that we let it affect it the way that it does. Hopefully you can catch your emotions before they are unleashed. However, most people around me have not been so lucky :)
So, this really should not come as a shock to anyone. Millions of americans sacrifice their health on a daily basis to achieve perfection within the workplace. This is both mentally and physically draining. In most situations, you wind up losing more than you could have ever hoped to gain...
