CMU may buy land for $7.5 million

Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: "Carnegie Mellon University is close to completing the purchase of a vacant gasoline service station at 4655 Forbes Ave., Oakland, a deal that will end a three-year dispute with a developer who planned to build a $35 million hotel on the site."

I cannot and will never understand the financial minds at work here at CMU. Here we are paying one of the highest tuition rates in the country, with rates actually rising every year. The country is in a HUGE recession, and CMU can barely afford to give students and professors the things they NEED, much less the things we want. And yet, it seems that spending like this is happening EVERYWHERE across campus. I have never once heard complaints about a lack of space on this campus, and yet we're picking up property like sooners in the land rush.
