Writers Strike: L.A. Aid Requests Triple, Charity Finds
The Hollywood Reporter: The Entertainment Community Fund, the nonprofit founded in 1882 that was formerly known as The Actors Fund, fielded around 629 calls for assistance in L.A. in May 2023 after the Writers Guild of America strike began May 2, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. That’s up from an average of around 200 calls per month in the period that preceded the work stoppage, which has not only halted union writing industrywide but also shut down a significant amount of physical production as it has stretched into its 10th week.
