Spelling Bee is such a fun and light hearted show. I think it is great that Pittsburgh University is putting on this show, and adding in things to make the show special to them. The show is silly and doesn't take anything to seriously so their Mermaid mascot will fit in just fine, and add another layer of humor to the production. I have seen a couple different productions of this show, and what makes it each time is the casts ability to improve with the chosen audience members they bring on stage. You can tell right away who is comfortable to experiment in their role each night and who doesn't have the best handle on improve. Although I think this show doesn't not present too much of a challenge for a college level actor, it is such a fun and engaging show that I think it will attract a wider audience than the average theater goer, so hopefully more of the community will go out and see the show.
