David Fox emphasizes the "craft" in stagecraft

et cetera...: Education has been at the center of every industry job David Fox has ever held. Starting with his time as an ETC dealer where he trained end users, through his days at UCLA teaching grad and undergrad students how to find their way around a lighting rig, and on to ETC – first in phone support and now as a training and documentation specialist, it’s clear that he’s passionate about sharing his knowledge of the theatre.

The idea to make the educational platform digital is a great idea. Now more people can get access to the courses on their schedule. Its wonderful that people can get more education and get recertified online. However, I wonder how the experience and amount of information learned differs from the hands on teaching model. Sometimes with online lectures and tutorials, people let them play and pay little attention to them. I know that sometimes lawyers trying to extend their bar certifications will let the videos play in the background as they do other things. However, in live events, especially when it comes to someone's safety, it's important that people hear and retain the information. Also, I would be interested to know what parts of the content have been changes. Without being to physically see the equipment, changes to the curriculum must have been made. I wish the article went more into detail about how the curriculum has changed and what the pros and cons are with the new digital platform.

I am fascinated by the concept of a digital source to be able to about different aspects of stage craft. While the seems to suggest that this is only for individuals who have already received a ETC certification and want to renew it with out have to fly David fox out to teach them. While I think the concept of a digital service for instructional videos to be very help also in train new members of the theater stage craft industry. Mind you I wouldn't want to completely disregard a live an in person teaching moments that seems to have the theatrical world so far. Digital stage craft lessons a interesting concept my last question would what is the price mark on the individual lessons?
