Stage preview: The Rep goes inside the world of drag balls with 'Wig Out!'

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: A year before “RuPaul’s Drag Race” splashed the spectacle of a drag queen battle royale onto television screens, “Wig Out!” was onstage to pull back the curtain on the fierce competitors who make drag balls their life.

From his perch at The New York Times, critic Ben Brantley gushed over “this gutsy, pulsing portrait of uptown drag queens and the men who love them” when “Wig Out!” debuted off-Broadway in 2008. The play also had a London run that same year, and that was it.

I so wish I could go see this. A recent drama all email was sent out about this production and it looked very interesting there as well. This article gives more insight into it and I think that it will be a fun and exciting show. Although I am not really very familiar with the drag community and ideas, I think that is it quite an interesting form of self expression and art. The only time I really saw a drag performance was the student done one here last semester. It was very enjoyable and very light harded. I would be very interested in seeing a production that is unlike Kinky Boots in the context of drag and celebrating it for what it allows. I hope many images are published from this production because I would love to see the costumes created and the scenic design. Tome Cousin's approach and background really promises to make this show special.
