New Hazlett Theater celebrates a decade

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: The New Hazlett Theater is throwing itself a 10th birthday party on Friday with a youthful flair. There will be a bouncing castle, games, pizza and hot dogs and, of course, birthday cake — in the shape of the 1889 building at 6 Allegheny Square E. on the North Side.

The building became the Haz-lett Theater in 1980 in honor of a prominent civic leader, then acquired the “new” in its name after Pittsburgh Public Theater left the building in 1999 for Downtown. The grand reopening weekend was Sept. 15-17, 2006.

First off, HAPPY BIRTHDAY NEW HAZLETT THEATER! The New Hazeltt is arguably one of the theaters in this city with the most interesting history. The physical building has gone through so much over all of the years, and I am so glad that they are celebrating the past, present and future. Sometimes milestones like these seem rather pointless and stupid, but in this case I think it is rather important thing to celebrate. This theater has gone through a ton of changes to get to where it is today and that in of itself is a huge achievement. This is also a great marketing tool. They are going to attract a ton of audience members that have the potential to turn into donors. All in all, I am intrigued to see what happens next as they move into the future.
