10 of the most impressive movie sets ever built
sploid.gizmodo.com: The biggest movies are spectacles that can teleport your eyeballs to another world but so much of that is done through green screens and special effects now that it’s important to note when it’s not (or when it’s done really, really impressively digitally). CineFix has come up with 10 of the coolest movie sets that actually existed in real life (or took a helluva impressive time to build).

I really enjoyed this behind the scenes look at film sets. It's easy to forget how much money and time go into creating elaborate film sets, and this video did a great job of crediting the creators of these amazing sets. The models shown for movies such as Metropolis were particularly interesting, because modern movies usually use CGI and other special effects to show large cityscapes, etc. I was also interested by how some production designers chose to base their sets off of natural places, such as in The Lord Of The RIngs, but others decided to create their entire environment. It would be awesome to work on film sets at some point in my life, because I think it would be interesting to see the difference between the design process for theatre versus film. I'd be interested to see if the set designers for these films have large backgrounds in theatre, and how this affects their film set design process.
