A Fan of Awesome Movies Asks if Movies Have Become Too Awesome
c2meworld.com: Nothing less than the fate of Manhattan, the Earth and the galaxy are at stake in upcoming releases The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Godzilla and Guardians of the Galaxy. Will these films play out in dialog-heavy scenes in a coffee shop, a boardroom or a lonely beach? Of course not. Their conclusions will be decided in grand battles across vast expanses and with images and technology beyond reality.

This is a very valid argument and an important one to be having right now.
My dad always complains about "chase scenes". He doesn't believe in them. They're gimicky. The build suspense and do nothing for the plot. A lot of stories are lost in our modern gimicks.
This past week I saw the new Spider-Man movie and I was widely impressed by the special effects, especially having read about them beforehand on this blog. As opposed to what this writer says, I am not disillusioned by the magic that can be created on screen, but I do think that excessive use does pull use away from the reality, and in that, pulls us away from the humanity. For instance, Gwen Stacy's death could have bared to much more weight, but it was animated and pretty and constructed and in SLOW MOTION that it was harder to care. The whole action was about the "action" and not the characters. An interesting conversation to have!
