Inside the making of Transformers: The Ride
Theme Park Insider: After getting my turn on Transformers: The Ride Friday morning, I got the chance to sit down with Universal Creative ride designer Thierry Coup (the man behind Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey and The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man, as well as Transformers) and Universal Studios Singapore Vice President for Operations John Hallenbeck, to talk about the ride and where it fits within Universal Studios Singapore.

I attended the talk with CMU SOD alums Jon Scovron and Ryan Dixon who are both creative writers and they discussed how the ability of a story to cross mediums is becoming an increased necessity in the world of creative fiction. They talked not only about books being written so they could later become movies, but also books and movies being made so that the franchise could develop into things like video games and theme park attractions. They went as far as to say Disney won't even do a movie now unless it has strong franchise potential. We've seen some of this cross-media exploration happening in theatre the past decade with the many successes (and a few failures) from Disney, as well as the currently trending Spider-Man. I would even go as far as to say the soundtrack/jukebox musicals popping up are riding the coattails of this franchising endeavor. As technology continue to evolve, I wonder if we will be seeing more stories rooted in film/television appearing on stage; or better yet, The Book of Mormon theme park ride.
