Trapeze artist killed in fall in Calif
Boston.com: "A circus trapeze artist working without a net fell 40 feet to his death during a performance, authorities said."
No net?!?! I really don't understand why people do that! I don't care how good you are there's still a chance something could happen and you could fall. I'm surprised nets are mandatory...
Thats really sad and it could have been prevented with a net. But I can understand wanting to take you act to the next level and to test you skill, its just very unfortunate.
I really hate when things like this happens. It makes the entire industry look bad. It really goes back to the exercise we did on Tuesday. We really need to make it unfinished until it is extra-safe.
I'm surprised that he was allowed to do it with no net. From all the venues I visited, it's required to have a safety net if a harness is unavailable or not able to be applied to the situation. I mean, most of the people who do these acts professionally feel more relaxed and believe they are less likely to make a mistake, but to take away all possible safety is just a stupid idea.
One of my teachers in high school, in fact the vice prinicple of the school was of such a profession and he said that it's fairly common to work without a net after some time but it always really bothered him. I can see why you wouldn't have the net but it seems a silly risk to take.

My heart goes out to the victim and his family.
