The Oresteia Project

Pittsburgh City Paper: "Greek tragedy is not easy to enjoy -- especially when the story is a trilogy, the total run-time is three and a half hours, and each part is so surreal that you feel like you're walking through different wings of the Salvador Dali Museum, on LSD. So if you're going to take on the Oresteia Project, Carnegie Mellon Drama's gigantic production of the Aeschylus plays, don't take the challenge lightly. "

I think my favorite part is "Don't expected to make sense." Throughout the progression of the show, I did feel like the people who haven't been exposed to much theatre would not be able to make sense out of it. And I felt they should understand it is part of the agendas that the directors were going for.

Hehe ...I think I was able to understand it because we had so much discussion about it in all of our classes. I really do think if you dont have it you'll be lost. Though the 3rd play anyone can enjoy.

I like how this review stresses to read the program notes, but ignores the tie in to the different movements of the avant-garde theatre. If the review stressed this, the concept would have seemed more solid here. I've heard a lot of mixed opinions about the oresteia, but personally found it wonderful. to each his own.

It's good to hear that the critics enjoyed the shows, and they took the abstract look at the Orestia well. I'm still sad that I didn't get the chance to see the show, but I am happy to hear that apparently it went well.

and too bad it sold out so fast, and too bad i didnt have time to see any of it. i definitely heard it though, the quiet study should get some soundproofing.....

its amazing to me that we've pulled this show off. it was a huge concept that i never thought would be possible. CMU Drama has amazed me once more.

I loved the note on this being a very visual experience and that the plot just isn't that important. It's amazing that this all happened, now if only the strike would be done.
