SUMMARY
Responsible for preparation of theater facilities and execution of performing arts and rental events for the Scottsdale Center for the Arts. Primarily concerned with insuring the operational readiness of all major technical systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
• Responsible for direct execution of performing arts events at all SCA theaters.
• Supervises the setup of all sound systems, stage lighting and theatrical equipment necessary for specific events.
• Coordinates the execution or executes the lighting and sound systems; coordinates the design and/or designs lighting effects.
• Coordinates the state and equipment set up and the loading and unloading or trucks.
• Assists in the creation and management of the budget for the theater department with the Senior Technical Director and Director of Performing Arts.
• Advises on and implements departmental expenditures, equipment purchases and capital improvements.
• Insures safe and proper working conditions at all times.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Supervises all Assistant Technical Directors and theater technicians.
• Schedules technical personnel resources for events including the coordination of vacation times, department meetings, etc.
• Develops and maintains a comprehensive over-hire program.
Other duties may be assigned from time to time as business needs dictate.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Any combination equivalent to graduation from college with a Bachelor’s degree in theater with an emphasis in technical theatre sound or three years experience as a technical director at a professional level. Knowledge of set-up and operation of stage sound, lighting and rigging systems is required. Knowledge of safe stage management practices and techniques. Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with staff, visiting artist and the general public.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract and calculate percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

None
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES
Ability to operate sound, lighting and rigging equipment and personal computer. Knowledge of word processing, spread sheet and data base software required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds and stand on feet for long periods of time. Must be agile enough to work on catwalks up to 45 feet above ground.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Non-smoking environment.
Must be available evenings and weekends and more than 40 hours per week.
