Work - of a sort

Gateway Playhouse currently seeks dedicated and talented INTERNS to assist its professional staff full-time on our 6 mainstage productions. Duration of internship is negotiable, preferably mid-May to late August.

Gateway Playhouse, now celebrating its 57th year, is an equity summer theatre located just 55 miles east of New York City in picturesque Bellport Village, Long Island. As Long Island's only professional musical theatre, Gateway produces a season of 6 musicals, performing in one of two venues: our own 500 seat Gateway Playhouse, and the 1200 seat Patchogue Theatre. Please refer to our website (www.gatewayplayhouse.com) for more information.

Gateway offers an opportunity to gain practical stagecraft training and experience at a professional regional theatre. Selected candidates will work side by side with professionals from Broadway, Off-Broadway, touring companies and other regional theaters. We are seeking interns in the following fields:

* Carpentry
* Electrics
* Sound
* Properties
* Wardrobe
* Scenic Painting
* Company Management

In addition to building and prep work in specialized areas, interns will gain experience on running crews during performances.

We are seeking enthusiastic applicants who aspire towards a career in theater and wish to improve their talents and build their resumes. Interested candidates should submit the following information:
  • Cover letter stating areas of interest and availability
  • Resume of theatrical and other related experience
  • Two letters of recommendation, one of which should be from a member of the faculty or staff at the candidate's present educational institution. Recommendations should attest to the applicant's talents, potential and professionalism.
Interns receive a small stipend. Local applicants are encouraged to apply, however housing in certain cases, is available.

All interested applicants should send cover letter and application materials0 to David Ruttura via e-mail hr@gatewayplayhouse.com or fax (631-286-5806).
