‘Midnight Rider’ Director Randall Miller Freed From Jail In Shock Ruling

Deadline: Midnight Rider director Randall Miller is being released from a Georgia jail today after a motion filed by his attorneys Friday was heard in court this morning. The surprise move came after Assistant District Attorney John Johnson and Miller’s attorneys had negotiated a two-for-one deal in the hallway prior to Miller’s plea agreement a year ago, so Judge Anthony Harrison said today he had no choice but to honor that agreement, follow the law and release Miller.

Throughout the whole article, especially after reading the first few sentences and the part where the family of Sarah Jones had original thought that Miller was serving two years, I thought about how people, particularly those of some kind of influence, will try to get away with anything. I not all people, but those in particular who don’t want to face full judgment for their actions. I don’t believe the two for one deal was necessarily underhanded, if understood by the whole court and those who are agreeing to the plea and deal. But the fact that the Jones family had not clue that their was such a deal in place and, now, have no choice but to agree with it, is deceitful and unethical on the ADA, Miller’s attorney, and Miller. The fact is there was a criminal act done here. They trespassed on private property that was not only not open to them, but the owners specifically told them no. They went in knowing this, with the crew being clueless of their misdeed and assist to criminal action. As result a life was lost and many were injured. What does that say about the worth of one life, when the judgment could underhandedly altered and changed. If you take blame, plead guilty, then you need to serve your full judgment as agreed to by the whole court.
