I'm really glad to hear about this project. Renovations of old spaces can be incredibly expensive, as the article points out, but I think this sort of project is culturally important. It would be heartbreaking to lose something architecturally and ideologically representative of Russia's cultural development under Catherin II, and as a world center for performing arts. I think the space where art is created can be as important as the work, and keeping this space means continuining and honoring a tradition.
