Mr. Dreyfoos wants to rebrand his namesake school so badly he’s willing to pay

News - The Palm Beach Post - West Palm Beach, FL: Alexander Dreyfoos Jr. has been clamoring for years for his namesake school – Dreyfoos School of the Arts – to tweak its name. So far, his suggestion has been politely declined.

But what a difference $1 million makes.

As someone who grew up in the Palm Beach County School District, I can say that literally every other magnet school option is aimed towards the sciences. Why is it so bad to just have one school focused on just the arts? There are some schools focused on just sciences, and others on both arts and sciences. Dreyfoos is infamously known as “that art school in South Florida,” and for good reason—they are really good at what they do. They have the knowledge, and resources to train artists to reach their full potential and they do not disappoint. Literally, every theatre festival I went to was just watching Dreyfoos win every award possible. In fact, everyone else became so used to Dreyfoos winning every award that if someone else won a category it was immediately questioned if Dreyfoos was actually entered into that category, or if the artists from the other school were actually good enough to beat them.
