The Tartan Online: Organized and led by 16 Carnegie Mellon students, the second annual TEDxCMU: Pivot was held on April 1. The team of students brought nine speakers and two performance groups to the six-hour event, including professors, students at Carnegie Mellon, and guest speakers recommended by sponsors.

This reminds me of the time that I participated in my high school's own independently organized TED event, TEDxIHS. The International Baccalaureate theatre program required its students in the senior year to devise and perform an original piece of theater and write on our process, what is called our Independent Project. My friend and I were taken by the story of Chelsea Manning, a military whistleblower who, in the early 2000's released through Wikileaks many secret documents about the war in Iraq, and the military's misconduct. We decided to moutn a performance piece based on the ambiguity of blame and evil in Chelsea Manning's story, and the tragedy she has befallen in her life, as well as the mistakes she made, and whether it was wrong or right to release sensitive documents like the ones she released. It was a good experience to be able to explain our ideas to other people in the audience, and to be able to answer questions that made our piece better in the end.
