Theatre Historical Society relocates to Pittsburgh
TribLIVE: The Theatre Historical Society of America is dedicated to preserving the memory of America's theaters, big and small. They had such a great time in Pittsburgh at their conference in 2014, and felt so welcomed here, that they've moved their entire operation to Pittsburgh, from suburban Chicago.

What a wonderful organization that I never would have known about. While I think that the Theatre Historical Society has a great mission, I think that their goals sound a little ambitious for a dying organization. Moving to Pittsburgh, though it may be great for the city, sounds like the last resort for the company. Especially after they sent proposals to 38 cities, and only Pittsburgh was willing to give them the resources necessary. Building a national museum is a big task, especially since museums are struggling now too. Also, documenting every theater that has ever existed in the the United States is a big goal for three people. They estimated that there have been 100,000 theaters in America and they only have document 18,000 of them. Though 18,000 is an impressive number its only 18% of their goal. Nevertheless, I would love to see the Theatre Historical Society’s collections when they get situated in their new home in Pittsburgh.
I agree with Rebecca here, what a wonderful gem and treasure that I didn't know was a thing at all. I'm ecstatic to hear about their move to Pittsburgh. Personally, I don't really like the city of Pittsburgh, but I do think it has a very rich cultural and theatrical scene. When they get settled in, I'm considering paying them a visit. I'd love to just learn and absorb and look at things. I think Theatre History is so fascinating. Even though this ins't necessarily a history of theatre but rather a history of theatrical buildings, I still think it is so interesting because each theatre has such a unique story. I also think building a museum is an amazing idea! I'm not sure how many people will actually go to it because well, it is just theatre... But it would be really cool! Perhaps they should instead consider an attachment onto a museum who also does other things. That might be a safer bet.
