Diversity in Hollywood Is a ‘Plus Factor For the Bottom Line’
Variety: Hollywood is failing to present more diverse casts in movies and television — even though doing so would maximize the bottom line, according to a new report issued Tuesday by the Ralph J. Bunche Center for African American Studies at UCLA.

I’m not surprised that adding diversity would bring more money for movies, but I’m curious on how this study is done. To me, it sounds too theoretical be able to prove. Therefore, I wish that the article talked more about the study and how it worked. Also, how has the study differed in the past four years. If The Ralph J. Bunche Center, has been testing this same topic for four years I would be interested in knowing how the data has changed, if it has changed. Overall, this article sits on the surface, but I’m not surprised. Its main goal is to pose a question that people are already asking themselves before they sit down to watch the Oscars. This poses the question of why studios have not been making movies with diverse casts, if a scientific study believes that it will bring more money. People would think that people in the industry would be looking at the bottom line. However, the article makes no attempt to answer the question. That fine, however I personally would have found an article that focused on the study's procedure or attempted to figure out why change has not happened more interesting.
