Eviscerating The Sound Of Music Live

It Seems To Me…: NBC aired a live performance of The Sound of Music last night, and theatre performers and aficionados panned it in spectacular and vitriolic fashion. It quite clearly became a competition to see how creatively each person could say they hated it more than the next person. I find that disappointing and somewhat sad.

This article touches on an important point for all performers nowadays: IT IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH JUST TO BE GOOD. To clarify: being good ("good" referring to equity or near-equity standard in this sense) is absolutely required, and it will maybe get you jobs as well; but it will not make a living. You need relevance, exposure, singularity in what you offer, and -most importantly- the skills and self awareness to hone your singularity, get yourself exposure, and stay relevant.

While many performers could have been as good or better than Carrie Underwood in The Sound of Music, she was not chosen because she was good. Her relevance and exposure set her apart.
