this is a pretty brilliant way to create the increasingly popular mockumentary style films or documentary based horror films. I would love to see in action though the processing that has to happen in order to filter through which films you want to use and those that just aren't good enough to stay off the cutting room floor.
As someone who ha- err, vehemently dislikes the concept of crowdsourcing when applied to traditionally craftsmanship-type positions, I'm cringing to see this. Granted, there will be films that desire the lo-fi type effect from smartphones and actually benefit from the realism present in a low quality shot. Really, the few films who will need this will find a way to get those perspectives.
But for the most part? Why.
