JOB TITLE: ASSISTANT TECHNICAL DIRECTOR

REPORTS TO: TECHNICAL DIRECTOR

START DATE: June 2008

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Assist Technical Director in the implementation of the Goodman Theatre’s 8 show season in the Albert and Owen theatres; it’s annual production of A Christmas Carol; and Special Events
  • Aid in realizing scenic designs thru technical, structural, and automation design
  • Produce construction drawings for scenery, rigging, and automation fabrication
  • Assist in scheduling and supervising work for build, load-in, and load-outs
  • Produce time and material estimates per show and maintain budgets
  • Maintain accurate inventory of materials, expendables, stock scenery, soft goods and automation equipment
  • Assist in maintaining 65,000 square foot scene shop, tools and vehicles
  • Maintain safety standards at scene shop and back stage
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Technical Director or Production Manager

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • College education or equivalent professional experience required
  • A minimum of 3 years comparable experience in technical direction
  • Extensive knowledge of AutoCAD, 3D CAD Drafting, and Microsoft Office required
  • Strong background in scenery construction techniques, rigging and theatrical automation
  • Experience managing IA crews beneficial
