Charged With Plagiarism, Regional Urinetown Teams Fire Back; Lawsuit Filed
Playbill News: "Creators of the two Midwest productions of Urinetown accused of plagiarizing the Broadway version's direction, choreography and design are fighting back. The Carousel Dinner Theatre in Akron, OH, has sued the Broadway team, and a lawyer for the Chicago production at the Mercury Theater sent the Broadway team a letter denying all charges."

This is such a sticky situation. Plagiarism of any sort, be it articstic or academic, where emotions are always involved and thus the battle is that much more intense. People are dealing with theft ideas and their own creations, something profoundly more difficult to deal with than material objects. I hope things are sorted out in a civil matter and that both sides can come to an agreement about the outcome of the situation without too much legal or professional reprecussions.
