I don´t understand the reasons to exempt from the ban. I am sorry for those who smoke, but the rest of the society don´t have to stand their smoke… especially in closed spaces.
I think the anti-smoking laws have proved to be effective in the reduction of the consumption… So I´m glad they finally approved it.

I dont know how large the food industry in pittsburgh, but back home its quite large; when our smoking ban passed it casued a lot of restaurants to build new establishments outside the restriction zone so commuters would still eat at their restaurant.

I am just wondering if here, as in Denver, the ban would apply to actors during a stage production.
We often seem unable to do a single production here without smoking. This would be an interesting wrinkle to that issue.
That could be interesting. I wonder if a ban like that could apply to all theatres, or just "intimate" ones. If you smoke in a chosky show the chances of smelling it are low. Then again, smelling it is not really the point. Do you know if the Denver ban applied to outdoor theatres?

I don't see why a child would not be permitted to enter a venue that applied for and received a waiver to the smoking ban. I can understand why a parent/guardian/adult would be required to be present with the minor, but to ban their presence entirely is kind of absurd. children are allowed in rated r movies, liquor stores, and tobacco shops when accompanied and i don't see why this would be any different. i think parents should have the ultimate say in what their children are exposed to. --Maddie Regan
i agree to kristen. it's getting annoying how they treat smoking as a direct disease. deviding nonsmoking and smoking seats are protecting children and nonsmokers enough. they should stop banning everything.
I'm happy to hear that Allegheny County is banning indoor smoking. Being from California where all indoor smoking is banned in public venues, it makes being someplace less enjoyable when the air is smoky. I don't know why waivers are being allowed though. It seems like the only business with a really good excuse is a smoke shop.

In terms of theatre, we seem to get exemptions for everything else on the planet, so what not for smoking?
Also, do we often smoke real cigarettes on stage? Would the ban also cover smoking fake ciggs such as rose-petals or organic?
