Lin-Manuel Miranda brings 'Hamilton' (and Ham4Ham) to Hollywood

www.usatoday.com: In a movie town, theater is now king.

The hottest ticket in Hollywood Wednesday night wasn't to a superhero film premiere; it was to see the über-popular Hamilton.

The touring Broadway sensation opened in Los Angeles' Pantages Theatre and celebrities weren't about to miss being in the room where it happened.

As a Los Angeles native, this is both heartwarming and concerning. It's heartwarming in the sense that it brings my two loves together, Los Angeles and theatre. It's concerning because Ham4ham is traditionally something that many New Yorkers are both familiar with and have access too, but what they also have access to is plenty of other professional theater on the same block. The beauty of the Pantages in LA is that it usually boasts cheap tickets and professional touring companies for Los Angeles locals. With traffic and transportation issues in LA, ham4ham is simply not an ideal situation for most people in Los Angeles. I know that most of the problem is the popularity of the show, but my main problem with Hamilton being in Los Angeles for such a long time is that it's not only sold out and only serves the elite who can afford to buy tickets, but its takes the opportunity away from many people to watch broadway quality shows from the comfort of their own city. The Pantages is not Broadway, and it should be treated as such. I'm afraid that the arrival of Hamilton in LA has taken away a part of the magic that is theatre in LA for avid Socal theatre goers like myself.
