The Voice of the Arts

AST Exhibits: Who is the voice of the arts in your town?

After graduating college, I went to work at a commercial classical radio station in Houston Texas. The call letters were KRTS and we advertised that we were the voice of the arts in Houston. It wasn’t just advertisement, we worked really hard to give the arts community a platform to be heard.

This is an interesting article, Its hard to find a voice about anything that has so much varied opinions. In accordance to my hometown its all over the place and really has no voice. I started working on a historic downtown project that encouraged the arts and history in our hometown area. I worked at an architecture firm later who encouraged this project and I was able to work there over the summer. when i came onto the project there was a lot of controversy about where the project should direct itself towards. Should it be a nice historic downtown where there are neat shops and restaurants to walk to or should it be an artist hub where people could go and let loose while also relaxing. these two voices often clashed at times and thus resulted in a slow moving project. The voice or voices of art in my town are very different and therefore make art expression a lot harder for the majority.
