The Women's Voices Theater Festival will return in 2018

DC Theatre Scene: In 2015, The Women’s Voices Theater Festival introduced us to the works of nearly 70 playwrights. Today, the persistent rumors that there would be a second festival were confirmed. The second Women’s Voices Theater Festival will run from January 15 thru February 15, 2018. While the first festival focused on world premieres, the organizers have expanded the criteria to allow for those sometimes even more difficult-to-get-produced second and third productions.

This is great. After reading another article on the blog about how women are still underrepresented in all aspects of the entertainment world and how that problem starts with the plays and how the only ones getting produced are plays written by white men for white men, I think that this festival is so relevant and very needed today. I think the festival developers make a great point on how sometimes it is even harder to get a second or third production produced and that why they have opened up the festival to not only brand new works but older works as well. I think that this festival will certainly highlight the need for women playwrights with the content of these plays and the important themes they will bring to light helping people see the importance that their voices bring to the world. I am certainly glad that this festival is coming back.
