Walt Disney Imagineers Install Nemo Icons at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort

Disney Parks Blog: Walt Disney Imagineers will continue this tradition in 2012 with the debut of Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, which will allow guests to immerse themselves in one of four beloved animated films by staying (and playing) in resort buildings themed after family favorites – including one inspired by Disney•Pixar’s “Finding Nemo.”

Can I just say that the fact that the MODEL is six feet high is really impressive? As a Florida resident, I have had a lot of opportunities to see the imagineers at work creating displays like this around the Disney parks and resorts. It's always a sight to see. The speed of the install and professionalism of the workers is impressive but seeing pre install work like this takes the cake. It's good to see that equipment we use like the laser cutter and cnc router come in handy in the real world.

I've never thought about how these giant icons are built. For some reason I just assumed it was structurally carved and built out of foam, but that doesn't really make sense. I didn't think that these icons had an internal steel structure, but apparently they do--which might've have been obvious to others.

I wonder how well these icons stand up to the weather and how often they will need to be repainted.

(Also, kind of obsessed with the icon of Marlin and Nemo, it's precious.)

I love learning about how Disney creates things. Because of their funding their process is just on a whole other level. The fact that there model is six feet high is proof of this. I would like to learn more about the type of equipment that they use to make not only the final project but also models. I am also curious as to how long it took to create these things. The amount of time and energy that Disney puts into the little details is what makes all of their parks and attractions so fantastic

Hello, Dream Job. It is great when we get to see the process on a Disney project since so much is typically kept under wrap. Disney really does good work to withstand not only the weather but also the patrons of their environments (both in the parks and in the theme resorts). Hopefully more videos will come out as the project progresses.

I had the privilege of going to Art of Animation for the soft media launch back in 2012 (literally when I was in second grade) and I vividly remember how I felt the first time we got there. We walked into an explosion of the Finding Nemo world, with giant fish and sea creatures, vivid and bold colors, large sculptures of our favorite characters, and rooms beautifully themed to the movie. Some strange memories I have is our room having a Crush the Turtle plush that they gave us in a swag bag, and on the wall a shape made with those little silver fish from the movie. I also recall going to the pool area, where these large fish sculptures from the article come into play, and going underwater to hear music! It was so much fun. In addition to the Nemo section, there is also Cars, Lion King, and Little Mermaid with equally immersive and detailed sections.
