American Musical Theatre of San Jose Cancels Productions of 42nd Street, Tarzan and Closes Doors
Playbill News: "Michael Miller, CEO and executive producer of AMTSJ, said in a statement, 'We received a telephone call a few days ago from our co-producer for Tarzan, which was the Theater of the Stars in Atlanta, Georgia basically telling us that they had used all of the funds that we had paid them towards the production for other things. In essence, they cancelled the show without giving us any warning, and we discovered that the funds we had paid for Tarzan were spent on another production of theirs, which lost a significant amount of money.'"

It is honestly horrible that legal actions must be made in situations like this which should have never taken place in the first place. Why in the world would they spend all their sponsored money knowing that they COULD be sued and going along with it? I would be furious expecially that the show got cancelled.. it is a bit ironic really.. the fact they had to close the show because they spent the money on other things and productions.. Sad but ironic.
Wow, that was pretty low on the part of "Theatre of the Stars" to do what they did. Whoever made the stupid decision to put the money toward another project, knowing full well that the money was not for that project should have thought twice about that decision. Sure, these are tough financial times for everybody, but this was just a bad move.
i've worked at amtsj before and it makes me so sad to read this because it truly is a community based place, and the people who work there all connect with the theatre on more than just a professional level. it is a family based theatre that produces shows for the family. so it is so sad to see something happen like this. i think we sometimes forget about the community that exists in the theatres we work with or hear about, and to remember the personal connections that exist is important in my opinion.
Bad Day
