Forget LinkedIn, It May be Time to Find a Job on Facebook

Big Think: In a potentially game-changing tweak to the world's largest social network, Facebook is now allowing employers to post job openings directly to the site in the United States and Canada. While some companies had been using their pages to post openings, Facebook is now making a dedicated spot for those looking for work and those in need of workers to better find each other.

Great! Now Facebook can be my source of news, employment, and a great way to spy of family members! It's actually terrifying how big a presence Facebook and other social media sites have in my life. I actively forgo sleep to catch up on a few minutes of scrolling through cat videos and, as a bonus, enclose myself in a political echo-chamber. It's a huge waste of time and energy and no level of "more efficient" or "more consolidated" is really worth it. I think it is great that Facebook is "trying" to reduce the unemployment rate and this will probably be a great way to reach a large audience (especially millennials). But I am terrified of losing myself even further to the draw of technology. While it enriches our lives, there is a moment in which it's too much and too involved (and knows too much - the whole "your entire life is online" is a tad too Big Brother-y for comfort). I really think we need to take a step back and let our lives still be separated and not host our entire identity on Facebook. Put down the blue screen of mental numbness and do some comments instead.
