Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus will shut down in May 2017

The Verge: A year after it announced that it would no longer use elephants in its performances, the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus will hold its final performances in May of this year.

The Cirus’s parent company, Feld Entertainment Inc, revealed that it would hold its final shows in at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, in Rhode Island on May 7, and at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New York, on May 21, 2017. According to the company, the removal of the elephants from the act contributed to a decline in ticket sales, which, along with high operating costs, “the circus an unsustainable business for the company.”

I think this is an excellent announcement! Seeing the cruelty and captivity of animals in organizations like the circus is extremely sad. I am glad the organization took a financial hit when it began using elephants in the performances. I think it really did reflect the public's opinion towards animal cruelty. Moreover, I am very happy to hear that the US has created further restrictions for animal safety. I think the Rinling Brothers Conservation for Wildlife is an excellent endeavor for the company, and is one step further to healing the broken relationship between animal lovers and the circus. Hopefully these measures will go on to influence other organizations, like Seaworld and encourage them to eliminate animal captivity in their parks. Hopefully this organizations can thrive off of teaching audiences about wildlife without having to abuse animals to do so. With the increased use of technology, people are more quickly discovering the cruel truth behind some of these well-known entertainment names. I'm sure that people would be even more willing to come to a park, if they know the "performers" are fairly treated.
