hmmm. Does the use of electronics automatcially, unconditionally create an atmosphere that is less condusive to meetings? Many consumer electronics sales reps would beg to differ. These devices are often designed and marketed to have a place in meetings of this exact sort.
Is the assumption that people who are using electronics are using them for processes which detract from the meeting's productivity a fair one? Its really the same thing as in class. Just becuase 90% of computer use in class is doing homework for the next class, or chatting on AIM, does not mean all computer use is counter-productive.
The 10% of productive technology use is how we, as a society, develop. There are undeniable advantages that come with having an information retreaval device at hand in a meeting or class. This is how societies progress - We use technology to our advantage, we don't shut it out.
The key is enforcing people to use their powers for good, not evil. Don't ban electronics from meetings, foster a sense of excitement and intrigue for the meeting which encourages people to use their technology to benefit everyone.
