Review: Pittsburgh fortunate to see 'The Beauty Queen of Leenane' return with its original champion

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: What else would there be but rain, this being the west coast of Ireland, the setting for “The Beauty Queen of Leenane”? It falls steadily throughout the first scene and again at the end, as the play loops back on itself in tragicomic finality.

But that doesn’t mean it’s tragic throughout, or even incessantly grim, because of course it’s Irish, and the laughs are many and deep, however they catch you by sudden surprise. Nor are the laughs all in the “it hurts so much” vein — not with inventive, sardonic playwright Martin McDonagh at the wheel.
