I love animation, and think that oftentimes it is one of the least thought about and supported sectors in the film industry. We place so much emphasis on our action films and drama television shows that we don’t really place as much importance on animation for longform content or animation for television marketed to teens and adults. Korea taking the initiative to increase their animation output and expand to new demographics is a great thing, and an important step in increasing animation for all audiences. Now, the Korean government could have left it at that, but they added AI spin offs to it and I’m a bit wary. I don’t exactly know what they mean by that, but if they mean what I think- that they are going to AI to animate some spinoff content from human-created shows- I really don’t want it. Animation is an art form, and I firmly believe that it should be left out of AI and continue to be handmade with love. Don’t let the animation sector be overrun with harmful tech.
