A Lebanese dancer defies extremist threats and social norms with his sold-out performances
www.thestar.com: Alexandre Paulikevitch put on his white dress and wig and danced his way to center stage, knowing that the extremist groups who had threatened him before his controversial recital might be waiting for him outside the theater.
I think this article has a lot of depth to it which I really appreciated. I recently got into a conversation with someone about how as a queer performer they would sometimes just like to perform as themself and not make it a whole thing. I think this connects to the beginning of the article where the author says I am not promoting anything if people want to come they should come. It would be my hope that a performer can simply perform without having to think about push back. Another thing I thought was powerful was the quote about how when a queer performer performs they are trying to convert society on some agenda. I think there is a fine balance on this article because they are right, inevitably it is a form of resistance whether intentional or not. I hope this goes well and it sounds beautiful. I think it being sold-out is positive.
