Profile Theatre Playwright Festival: Making new plays in troubled times

Oregon ArtsWatch: “The apparatus for new-play development has really cratered since COVID,” says playwright Mike Lew. He’s not wrong. The Lark. The Humana Festival. Book-It. All over the country, storied theatrical venues and institutions whose primary focus was the generation of new work are disappearing. And new work, as it is with any artistic discipline, is the lifeblood of theater.
