CMU to host TEDx conference centered on speeches
Post Gazette: "It's taken almost a year for the April 4 TEDx conference at Carnegie Mellon University to come together - a long time for an event built on 18-minute presentations."

I'M SO EXCITED. I love TED, and I completely agree with the quote "Although the original conference draws braniacs and obsesses about procedure, the goal is almost touchy-feely", that's exactly how I feel every time I watch one of those 18 minute clips, it always blows my mind and gives me a fresh perspective on things. The idea that no matter your status, if you're an important political figure, if you have less than months to live (like some of their speakers have been in the past) that the rules are the same: deliver an incredible speech, 18 minutes, no compensation for travel, is so cool. And the range of speakers that they have is truly across the spectrum from hollywood icons to political powerhouses. I really loved the one with Randy Pausch too, it's so great that they're coming to our school and I'm excited to find out who it is.
limiting the number of audience members to 100 - unless you've attended a prior conference? sounds like a big pyramid scam.
and what makes this different than any other lecture series? other than the attached name and logo i mean.
speakers aren't paid either? wow... then where's all the money from applicants go?
