New York Post: "IN this economy, every body's tight ening their belts. Every body, that is, but Julie Taymor.
The genius director of 'The Lion King' has never met a budget she didn't blow right past.
Case in point: 'Spider-Man,' her new show - extravaganza, really - whose budget has ballooned to $40 million, making it the most expensive production in theater history."

I cant imagine why the show would have a 1 million dollar weekly coast run! There must me a huge cast nd crew. I wonder who is more awkwar din this situation, the production manager, or the producers. I guess if you have her reputation, its hard to take no for an answer, you just assume your record will get you whatever you want. It makes the students here who act like that seem like not such a big deal anymore.
This sounds like a bad poker hand that everyone is too pot committed to fold. With a $40 million price tag and a $1 million a week run cost there is no way this show will ever make any money. There is a generation of people who wont know who spiderman is that will be the target audience before this show breaks even. I just hope everyone's contracts are for a percentage of the gross, not a percentage of the net, so that they might actually get some money for their work.
40 million! Jesus christ...somebody does really need to tell Julie Taymour that the show might not make that much money. I appreciate the idea of giving the designers leeway to design without worrying about budget, but that's pretty ridiculous.
it's just great to imagine her spending thousand dollars on something ridiculous. it would just be awesome to spend 40 million dollars to design in this economy when everyone is dying. but again, it's julie taymor, and you don't question her.
