HEY, BUDDY, CAN YOU SPARE SOME AIR MILES?

globeandmail.com: "The small Toronto-based theatre company Volcano is appealing to friends and other supporters for donations of Air Canada's Aeroplan miles to help facilitate its tours and workshops over the next year."

  1. This is actually not a bad idea for a theater company. Plenty of people accumulate airline miles without doing anything special, so this allows those individuals to support the Volcano Theatre Company without giving money out of their own pocket. I sometimes wonder why more companies don't get credit cards with rewards like airline miles, rather than simple procurement cards. I have cash back company cards. It's a free bonus, so why not get it.

This does seem like a really good idea. People who might not be able to or really want to give money to the theater might be able give miles, and I know people often have miles that they don't spend.
Plus, it also gives the donors a guarantee that their donations will be spent as intended.

This is such a ingenious idea. i know from personal experience that my family randomly gets frequent flyer miles on crazy airlines, but never really have enough on one company to buy a ticket. but if enough people donate all their little bits of miles you can really get a lot of tickets. also with the current economy i know my dad (a BIG flyer) is very nervous about the airline announcing one day that the miles are just gone...so it would be a great idea to use them up while they still last.

  4. That's really exciting, to hear about people helping each other. Most of what we could give away is going to waste anyway, like those miles.
