STLtoday: "Now in his fifth decade as a theatrical designer, John Ezell has created the look for hundreds of shows offering every sort of entertainment: classical and modern, serious and lighthearted, big-budget and strictly shoestring."
this article had nothing to do with the set design of the show. it sounded like a good idea and that one of our most distinguished alum was really thinking outside the box, but then remembered the bad 90's movie they copying and got a little disappointed.
I think that it's great that Mr. Ezell strives to make his designs fit with the artistic vision of the director as well as with the story of the play. Rather than creating spectacular sets which serve no purpose other than to flex his designer muscle, he really tries to make his sets fit. I am always disappointed when I see a perfectly good play, but I am distracted by the set (more than usual, I mean). It sounds like Mr. Ezell has the right idea.
