As the Economy Staggers, the New York Theater World Hopes for the Best

NYTimes.com: "For people who work in and around Broadway, as for pretty much everyone else in the country, the main stage in recent weeks has been on Wall Street. Those in both the for-profit theater industry, which depends on wealthy investors, and the nonprofit world, which depends on corporate donations, are anxiously watching to see just what kind of fallout will land on them."

this has been of concern around the halls, of an overall cutback on entertainment revenue across the board, and the impact the will have on us. Being in school at this moment in time, it should have very little impact, though depending on how long the economic downturn will last and any other lasting impact on the industry. It is my feeling, and maybe just wishful thinking, but I feel the no matter what is going on, people will want to be entertained. Econmic problems will certainly show that there is less room for major underwriting of major productions, but as far as ticket sales are concerned, I think the drop will not be as bad as people think it will be.
