'No offence meant' in Diana play
BBC NEWS: "A university student's satirical musical about Princess Diana has been banned from opening to the public over fears of causing offence."

This goes back to what I consider one of the important things to remember as an audience member. Not all theatre is meant for the same person. Audience members have a duty to know themselves and what will upset them, and to do enough research on the show ahead of time to know if it will fall into the category of things they should not see. that is not the theatres job, it is the audiences job. because somewhere out there is an audience member who needed to see this and wont, just because the theatre is scared of upsetting a person who should have chosen not to buy a ticket in the first place.
That graphic is pretty distasteful, considering the recent investigation about her death. I barely remember the whole scandal around her death, but to make fun of something so tragic really insults her memory.
There's a big difference between saying something, and disrespecting the dead.
I mean, yeah, the image isn't the most tasteful thing ever, but I feel like cancelling a show (or making it invited guests only) because it might offensive is counterproductive. A play about Princess Diana living in Mexico with dead celebrities is going to offend someone, but i could see it also being increadibly funny and thoughtprovoking. Too bad the public will never know.
